As one of the principal attorneys at the Denver-based law firm Tomazin, Hillyard, Clor LLP, Neil A. Hillyard serves clients in the Denver metropolitan area and throughout Colorado. For more than 40 years, he has represented the injured in cases involving motor vehicle accidents, medical malpractice and other types of personal injury.
In traffic accident cases, Mr. Hillyard handles everything from common car collisions to complex truck accident litigation. A motorcycle rider himself, he takes a personal interest in cases where motorcyclists have been injured by negligent drivers. In medical malpractice, he has litigated against doctors, hospitals, nurses, midwives and others when their professional negligence has harmed his clients. He has devoted much of his career to handling difficult cases involving birth injuries.
Mr. Hillyard attended Sturm College of Law at the University of Denver. He graduated in 1972 and was admitted to practice law in state courts in Iowa in 1973 and state and Federal Courts in Colorado in 1974. During law school, he worked as a clerk for a plaintiffs lawyer who had a successful practice. Soon after graduation, he practiced in his home state of Iowa for a short time and then returned to pradtice in Colorado.
In addition to his law practice, Mr. Hillyard is active in several professional organizations. He has served as president of the Colorado Trial Lawyers Association and is a member of the International Society of Barristers, the Colorado Bar Association, the Denver Bar Association, the Douglas-Elbert Bar Association and the Arapahoe County Bar Association, among other groups.
His accomplishments on behalf of his clients have earned Mr. Hillyard several awards and honors over the years. In 2004, he was given a lifetime achievement award by the Colorado Trial Lawyers Association. The attorney peer-review service Martindale-Hubbell has given him its highest rating, AV Preeminent.* He has been named a Colorado Super Lawyer annually by his peers. He has been annually selected as a Best Lawyer in America by his peers in the areas of Plaintiff\'s Personal Injury, Plaintiff\'s Medical Malpractice and Plaintiff\'s Product Liability ,for over 25 consecutive years.
