Irena Chernova

An associate at the Johns Creek office of Meriwether & Tharp, LLC, Irena Chernova focuses her practice exclusively on family law matters. She represents clients in Fulton County and other parts of the greater Atlanta metropolitan area. Ms. Chernova has been admitted to practice before all Georgia state courts since 2014.

Ms. Chernova has extensive experience in providing advice and counsel to people whose marriages are coming to an end. She works with them when they are struggling to come to an accord on such divorce-related legal issues such as complex property division, child custody and visitation, and child and spousal support, advocating on their behalf when litigation is necessary and participating in negotiations and mediation sessions when a lengthy and contentious courtroom battle can be avoided. Ms. Chernova\'s family law experience has also included obtaining protective orders for victims of domestic violence, modifications to or the enforcement of existing support or parenting orders, the preparation and review of prenuptial agreements, and adoptions.

Born in St. Petersburg, Russia, and fluent in Russian as well as in English, Ms. Chernova moved to Georgia at an early age. She attended the University of Georgia as an undergraduate, where she majored in both advertising and international affairs and received bachelor\'s degrees in 2007. Subsequently deciding to pursue a legal education, Ms. Chernova enrolled at Atlanta\'s John Marshall Law School. While she was there, she was an editor of the John Marshall Law Journal, participated in moot court competitions, and served various internships before being awarded her Juris Doctor magna cum laude in 2014. Ms. Chernova\'s professional memberships include the Cobb County Bar Association.
